Description

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the second oldest university in Scotland and fourth oldest in the UK.
Today the University has more than 20,000 full-time students, including around 2,500 international students from over 80 different countries.

Curriculum Overview

The University of Glasgow admits by faculty and by degree, and when you apply you must indicate an interest in that faculty and degree. The University has 10 Faculties: Arts, Biomedical & Life Sciences, Information & Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Medicine, Social Sciences, Engineering, Law & Financial Studies, Veterinary Medicine, and Education. In the latest reviews by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education each subject area assessed gained the highest rating of Confidence in academic standards overall.

Student Life

The University of Glasgow has two Student Unions on campus: Glasgow University Union and Queen Margaret Union. Both have study rooms, cafeterias and bars, and they regularly hold concerts, club nights and comedy performances. Students can join a range of clubs and societies such as the International Society, Scottish Country Dance Club or Singapore Students Society. There are more than 40 sports clubs, from Aikido to windsurfing. Students also have the opportunity to become involved with student publications including the Glasgow University Guardian and Glasgow University Student TV.

Special Services

The University provides support services to all international students. A counselling and advisory service is available to all students seeking guidance on personal problems. Every undergraduate student is allocated an Adviser of Studies who aids students with their academic decisions, course choices and more general matters pertaining to their progress. Our International Student Adviser offers sympathetic and confidential advice and will assist international students with issues such as immigration and the practical aspects of living.

Financial Aid

The University offers a Fourth Year Scholarship in the form of a tuition fee waiver for self-funded undergraduate students paying fees at the overseas student rate. This is not available for students studying LLB, MBChB, BVMS, BDS.

Housing

The University of Glasgow has accommodation for around 3,500 students in halls of residence, student houses and flats.
