Description

Living and studying together, our students from over 100 countries are ready for a world where the ability to communicate effectively across national and cultural boundaries is as valuable as traditional academic achievement. A Richmond education offers a global perspective. It examines the patterns of similarities and differences between cultures and provides you with an intercultural focus. It's challenging and stimulating. It encourages you to form your own opinions.

At Richmond you will qualify simultaneously for both an American BA or BS degree and a UK BA(Honours) or BSc (Honours) degree, qualifications which are immediately recognised and respected by employers and graduate schools worldwide. The Richmond dual degree is possible because Richmond's degrees have US accreditation (Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools), plus accreditation in the United Kingdom by the Open University Validation Services (OUVS).

Curriculum Overview

We provide you with an education which encourages you to explore a wide range of subjects and programs. It is designed to allow the discovery of the connections between different academic areas such as literature, science, mathematics, computing, writing, business, psychology and sociology. It is a broad based education, an ideal preparation for a range of careers.

Student Life

As well as the excitement of living in one of the world's most lively and cosmopolitan cities London obviously offers spectacular resources and opportunities for learning outside the classroom. However, Richmond courses also bring the life of the city - its people, institutions, politics, problems and history into lectures and class projects. Add to all this an international faculty, flexible curriculum allowing you to explore outside your main specialization, small classes and campuses in two of London's most beautiful areas and you'll find Richmond a great place to earn an undergraduate or masters degree.

Special Services

Study Abroad Centers

Richmond students have the opportunity to complement their studies in London with a semester, year or summer at one of Richmond's two international study centers. The centers are in Florence and Rome, Italy. Although each center has a specific academic focus, they both offer intensive study of Italian language and culture and a curriculum that is integrated with the degree requirements in London. The centers are run in cooperation with the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS).

International Internship Program

Richmond has specifically designed the International Internship Program to combine a rigorous academic program and individual attention with a unique opportunity to work in Britain. If students are interested in business or finance, possible internships include banking, trading, business analysis and feature development in large or small companies. Students interested in a career in media or film making can try an internship for a magazine or production company. Performing arts internships place students with theaters, music companies, entertainment managers and theater agents.

Financial Aid

The Richmond Office of Financial Assistance is available to help students access a variety of funding programs including Scholarship (academic merit based) awards, Grant awards and Student Loans to assist students with meeting their fees and living expenses. It is important to remember that in nearly all cases, scholarships and financial assistance will only cover a portion of the annual tuition fees. You will need to meet the rest and all other costs, yourself. Eligibility for the programs varies greatly based on the student's academic standing, nationality and level of financial need.

In 2006/2007 Richmond students will receive over one million pounds in financial assistance. Some of this is in the form of aid from governments and foundations. Richmond's own generous scholarship program provides the rest.

Housing

First and second-year students attend our Richmond Hill campus. The campus is set in a splendid six-acre site at the top of Richmond Hill, one of London's most sought-after areas. An impressive neo-Gothic building constructed in 1843 and a modern five-level library, house classrooms, computer and science laboratories, art and photography studios and an auditorium. The campus also accommodates student residences, a dining hall, student common room, and faculty and administrative offices. There is also a multipurpose sports court of tennis, volleyball, basketball and mini-soccer (football). After completing two years at our Richmond Hill campus, students move to our campus in the London area of Kensington for their last two years of study.

Third-year, fourth-year and graduate students attend our city campus in Kensington, one of London's most beautiful residential areas. Its several buildings house classrooms, computing facilities, library, a dining hall and University offices. Students live in University buildings or live in off-campus housing of their choice. Within easy walking distance are the Royal Albert Hall, famous for its concerts, the Royal Colleges of Music and Art, Imperial College of Science and Technology, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Geological Museum and many cinemas, cafes, restaurants, clubs and department stores.
