Northumbria is best known for its highly rated, undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. It is a modern, government-recognised university with strong industrial and professional connections worldwide.
Curriculum Overview
Northumbria is listed in the "First Division" of British Universities in the Daily Telegraph's university league table (2001, 2002, 2003).
In official assessments carried out by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency the University has been judged "excellent" (or awarded at least 22 points out of 24) in most subject areas. In fact there are no subjects which have been rated lower than 20 points out of 24.
Students can choose from over 500 programs within the following subject areas: Applied Sciences, Arts & Social Sciences, Built Environment, Business, Design, Engineering & Technology, Health, Social Work & Education Studies, Informatics, Law, Psychology & Sports Sciences.
Student Life
Northumbria is located in the popular student city of Newcastle which is an ideal place for students, with its low cost, lively atmosphere and friendly people. It is also known for its great social life and has a busy calendar of entertainments, arts and musical events.
The Students'; Union organises numerous clubs and societies including badminton, canoeing, cricket, horse riding, jiu jitsu, judo, karate, kung fu, lacrosse, mountain biking, outdoor activities, rowing, skiing and snowboarding, squash, sub aqua, surfing, table tennis, trampoline, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, soccer, rugby, American football and swimming.
Special Services
The University has a long tradition of welcoming international students and a special effort is made to support them during their studies. There is a good choice of accommodation, and specialist services include a meet and greet service when international students arrive, an induction programme, English language support if required and ongoing access to three International Student Advisors. They provide advice on the arrangements that must be made before travelling to the UK, what to do on arrival, and they are there to help throughout your time at the University.
The University's learning facilities include: excellent library facilities; IT centres offering computing; personal e-mail accounts and internet access; additional on-line support via ?Blackboard?; help with study skills if required; health centres; Chaplaincy; and a careers service.

A limited number of scholarships are available.
Housing
Rooms are available in Halls of Residence, self-catered flats or houses, or other managed accommodation. Priority is given to first year undergraduates from overseas and outside the Newcastle area.
