Description

'Carey' is a Bible and Theological College where you can train for mission, ministry, and formation for whatever context God places you in. Carey is a missional training college based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Carey was started nearly 80 years ago in Auckland by the network of Baptist churches in New Zealand initially to train men to be ministers for these churches. These days there is a good gender mix and only about 20% of the students are training specifically to be pastors of churches - the rest are doing theological study for all sorts of reasons...

While Carey is sustained by the network of Baptist churches in New Zealand, about half of the students don't come from Baptist churches or backgrounds, and wouldn't claim to be 'Baptist'. The college encourages all students and tends to attract those from open evangelical traditions.

Curriculum Overview

Carey has two schools: The School of Applied Theology and Mission, and The RJ Thompson Centre for Theological Studies (which includes the Tyndale-Carey Graduate School).

The Curriculum is simple and flexible - all of the courses slot into 5 qualifications (our certificates, diplomas and degree)... Our Bachelor of Applied Theology provides the back-bone of out curriculum.

There are more than 70 courses to choose from to construct one of the 5 qualifications.

Postgraduate study is also available.

Student Life

The college academic timetable is usually based around classes on Monday to Thursday - this allows students who work or are doing Field Education to have at least 2 days a week without classes timetabled.
The college has a Students Association that focus on social and student focused needs.

Housing

Carey is a non-residential college so no house is available. Most students find houses or flats to rent in nearby suburbs and commute to classes. Renting a room in a shared flat costs approx. US$50-70/week.
The college is situated near a train station, bus stops and a motorway off-ramp is close as well.
